Tummy Tuck Procedure

Overview

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure to improve the contour of the abdomen. The best candidates are close to their ideal body weight, but even overweight patients can benefit. Pregnancy, weight fluctuation, and aging can result is loss of tone of the rectus abdominis muscles and/ or the overlying skin. These problems are addressed during the tummy tuck.

Although the scar can be long, it is hidden under bikini bottoms and underwear. Recovery often takes 1-2 weeks and results are usually permanent. Abdominoplasty can be combined with or preceded by liposuction to provide the maximal improvement in shape.
