Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis is pleased to present Radiesse, a non-surgical facial contouring filler that delivers immediate, long-lasting results. Radiesse has a unique composition, providing the immediate visual improvement common with other fillers, but with the benefit of longer term effects. This composition includes hydroxylapatite microspheres, which are made up of smooth calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The microspheres form a lattice beneath the skin, allowing your body’s own collagen to grow through it. This process is what produces the lasting effects seen with Radiesse over other dermal fillers.
The Aging Process
As we age, the underlying tissue and skin loses its elasticity, and there is also significant volume loss in certain areas, such as our faces and hands. This comes from a loss of fat as well as thinning of the bones and muscles.
Volume is important as it maintains or restores a youthful contour to the face and hands, softens the underlying bone structure, and supports skin and soft tissue. As people age, the cheek volume seen in our younger years gives way to a more triangular facial shape that will often invert, causing a less youthful appearance. For hands, this loss in volume can lead to thin, translucent skin with prominent veins and tendons, age spots, and wrinkles. Our hands can often give away our true age faster than our faces will!
Injectable fillers are great way to soften some of the depleted folds of the face and hands by adding volume back in in a naturally distributed way. Placement of a filler by a skilled and experienced provider is the most important factor in obtaining a natural and refreshed look.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a polysaccharide carrier. The calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in the body so allergy testing is not required since Radiesse typically does not provoke an allergic reaction.
Because these hydroxylapatite is very similar to the natural composition of our teeth and bones, it will form a kind of scaffolding under the skin when injected deep into the soft tissue of the skin. When the microspheres are absorbed within the scaffolding, natural collagen production is stimulated – creating longer lasting volume in the treated area. The effects of Radiesse injections can last over one year in many of our patients, with most seeing results for around 9-12 months.
Radiesse and Hand Rejuvenation
The Radiesse hand lift is a new procedure that utilizes Radiesse to rejuvenate hands. The 100% non-toxic Radiesse injections are frequently used on the face for long-lasting plumping and resculpting results, but its benefits are ideal for hand rejuvenation as well.
Unlike other forms of hand rejuvenation treatments, the Radiesse hand lift does not require any sort of anesthesia. A Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis provider will inject Radiesse into different parts of your hands, with injections taking between ten and fifteen minutes on average. The Radiesse product is mixed with a small amount of lidocaine, which will numb the affected areas and minimize any discomfort associated with the injections. The procedure is easily performed in our office with only minimal downtime. Though there may be some mild swelling and bruising with any injection, most patients are easily able to return to normal daily activity after a Radiesse appointment.
If you’re interested in Radiesse injections, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with us at Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis. We will carefully analyze your hands and let you know if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure.
