Overview

Ear reshaping (otoplasty) is performed to curb the protrusion of the ears to make them less prominent in proportion to the head.

Over-projected ears could be the result of several possible irregularities in the shape of the underlying cartilage framework. Your plastic surgeon will discuss these causes and the elements of otoplasty that can address them.

Although each person's case is different, many people undergo ear reshaping surgery during ages five to eight, when the issue has become fully apparent and may be bothersome to the child. However, many adults also choose to have ear reshaping procedures.

Following otoplasty, the scars are hidden on the backs of the ears, and recovery takes about 1-2 weeks.
