Many women in Memphis want fuller breasts but aren’t sure they want breast implants. While breast augmentation with silicone or saline is still very common, more patients are looking for a way to get natural results. Fat transfer breast augmentation is a great choice. It uses your own fat to give you a soft, balanced look without putting any foreign objects in your body.
At Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis, we see breast surgery as a way to help your body look more balanced. By using the fat transfer procedure, we can do two things at once: we slim down an area where you have excess fat, like your abdomen or thighs, and move those fat cells to your breasts.

While implants can make you much larger, fat transfer looks and feels very natural. Since we use your own fat, there is no risk of implant rejection or capsular contracture (this is when the body creates hard scar tissue around a fake implant).

A good candidate for this minimally invasive procedure is a woman who wants a small, soft change. To be an ideal candidate, you must have enough fat on your abdomen, hips, or thighs for us to use.
If you are very thin and do not have any excess fat, this process might not work for you. You should also be at a steady weight and in good health. Smoking is a big problem for this surgery because it stops the blood from helping the transferred fat stay alive.

Sometimes, our plastic surgeons suggest doing both. For very thin patients, breast implants can sometimes show a firm edge at the top. We can use fat transfer to hide the edge of the implant. This makes the implants look and feel much more natural.
We move living fat cells so they can grow in a new spot. First, we use liposuction to take fat from your abdomen, thighs, or other regions that have excess fat. Next, we process the fat in to prepare it to be injected back into the body. Then, your surgeon will expertly place the fat into your breast to create the desired appearance and volume. This is how we get the best fat transfer results.
After your surgery in our Memphis surgery center, you will feel a little sore in two places. The area where we took the fat will feel like a bruised muscle. Your breasts will feel tight and full. You will have some swelling and bruising, but that is normal.
Most patients go back to work in about a week. You will wear a tight wrap on your stomach or legs to help the skin heal and keep swelling down. It is very important not to press on your breasts for a few weeks, which also means no sleeping on your stomach. You should stay away from hard exercise for six weeks so the fat cells can stay healthy.

It is a biological fact that not all the fat we move will stay. Usually, about 60% to 70% of the fat stays, and the body gets rid of the rest. Our plastic surgeons put in a little extra fat to plan for this. By three months, the swelling is gone and the fat that is left is permanent. These cells act just like any other fat in your body, if you gain weight later, your breasts can grow too.

We do not give prices over the phone. Every body is different, and we need to see you in person to give you a fair price.
Fat transfer can sometimes cost more than breast implants because it is like two surgeries in one. The price depends on how much liposuction we need to do and which areas of the body we use. At your consultation, we will look at your skin and fat and give you a firm price with no hidden fees. We also offer payment plans through CareCredit.

No. Once the fat starts growing in your breasts, it stays right there.
You will work with your surgeon to be at your ideal breast size following your fat transfer. If you decide that you would like to add even more volume, we can do a second procedure later on.
Both are safe, but fat transfer means you don't have to worry about an implant breaking or getting hard.
The transferred fat acts like the rest of your fat. If you lose a lot of weight, your breasts might get smaller, too.
