What The Modern Man Needs to Know About NeoGraft Hair Treatment

Hair loss is an issue the majority of men will experience at some point in their lifetime. How you look can drastically affect your confidence, and hair maintenance is a big part of that. And so if you find yourself suffering from hair loss, it’s important to know how you can fight it and maintain the appearance you want. Hair loss can affect anyone, but it’s most commonly a problem for men. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to combat it. At Memphis Plastic Surgery Group, we want to help you maximize your confidence, starting with the top of your head.

What causes hair loss?

Let’s start with the basics: What causes hair loss in the first place? Hair loss is a problem that can affect anyone, with the majority of men and half of women experiencing hair loss at some point in their life. There are several medical conditions that can cause hair loss. The most common cause is androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male or female pattern hair loss. Other causes can include aging, hormonal changes, certain medical conditions, or hereditary and genetics.

Treatment for hair loss is called hair transplantation. This kind of treatment takes hair follicles from one part of your scalp, usually from the back or sides, and implants them into balding areas. The two most popular techniques of hair transplantation are called follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit excision (FUE). The result of these surgeries create natural-looking hair growth with visually pleasing results.

That’s when NeoGraft comes in.

What is NeoGraft?

NeoGraft is a semi-automated version of FUE and one of the most recently developed modern hair implantation techniques. Evidence has shown it to be more effective than other FUE techniques by removing some man-made mistakes associated with the surgery. The goal of a NeoGraft is to redistribute your hair so that evidence of the transplant is invisible, and the results are permanent.

Hair transplantation surgeries have been performed since 1939, and the technology for them has only improved over the years. NeoGraft in particular is much different than the hair transplants of decades ago. It’s safer, more effective, and heals much faster. Let’s look at some of the benefits to keep in mind as you consider whether NeoGraft is a fit option for you.

What are the benefits of NeoGraft?

The clearest advantages of NeGraft are that the process is simple and the results are discreet. At Memphis Plastic Surgery Group, we believe patients suffering from hair loss deserve effective and discreet hair transplant results. Other benefits of the treatment include:

  • It’s the least invasive procedure for hair transplantation
  • Patients who receive NeoGraft feel little to no discomfort
  • No stitches or staples are used in the NeoGraft procedure
  • No scarring
  • No numbness in the donor area
  • Quick recovery time with little to no downtime
  • Flexible, natural-looking results
  • Patients are typically able to return to work the next day

If you’re looking for a fuller head of hair, NeoGraft is one of the most effective ways to get where you want to be.

What does the NeoGraft process look like?

The process begins when one of our doctors here at Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis will carefully extract individual hair follicles from the back of the head, also referred to as the “donor area.” This area is genetically programmed to resist the hormone that causes hair loss, meaning you’ll barely be able to tell that hair was taken from this area after it’s healed.

Once we’ve collected the right amount of follicles, the follicular units are carefully separated by size to allow for a more naturally occurring pattern during the implant process.

For the next step, your surgeon creates recipient sites for the hair on the thinning area in the proper angle, direction, and orientation created in the artistic transplant plan that is personalized to you.

For the final step, these newly transplanted follicles will then enter the normal biological process, “resting” before growing completely new hair in the grafted areas. The final result is a fuller head of hair that looks natural so no one will be able to tell you’ve had surgery.

Am I the right candidate for NeoGraft?

To be a candidate for a NeoGraft transplant, you should be in good overall health and capable of tolerating topical anesthesia. Certain heart conditions, bleeding conditions, and inflammatory conditions may prevent a doctor from recommending this transplant. If you’re prone to keloid or hypertrophic scarring, a hair transplant procedure could prove risky and is best avoided altogether. You must also be capable of growing hair in the area where your hair has thinned.
If your hair loss is the result of a health condition or medication, a hair transplant may not be able to give you permanent results. It’s best to address the condition at the root of the problem with your regular doctor.
Neograft can be an expensive treatment, so hair transplants are typically not recommended until you’ve tried other remedies and over-the-counter medication to restore and preserve your hairline without getting results.
