Male Hair Restoration With NeoGraft®

These days, we’re seeing more and more men taking advantage of all the benefits cosmetic surgery has to offer. More than 1.5 million men in the United States had some type of plastic surgery in 2019, from liposuction to rhinoplasty and everything in between. Here at Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis, this tracks with our own experience, as our own male client base continues to grow annually.

One of the procedures these clients seek out most often is hair transplantation or restoration. Androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male pattern baldness (MPB), accounts for more than 95% of hair loss in men. This hereditary condition is most often characterized by a receding hairline as well as a loss of hair on the top of the scalp. The American Hair Loss Association estimates that by the age of 50, approximately 85% of men experience significantly thinning hair, but over a quarter of men suffering from male pattern baldness start seeing its effects in their early twenties.

There are many possible causes for hair loss, including genetic, hormones, medication, and aging. Whatever the reason, however, one thing is clear—hair loss can have a damaging effect on the person experiencing it. Numerous studies on this subject have shown that a patient’s self-esteem and body image can be negatively impacted by thinning or balding hair. This loss can affect multiple aspects of a man’s life, especially when it begins at a younger age, and many men feel a deep loss of self-confidence. That’s where we come in!

How our NeoGraft® hair replacement treatment can help

Hair loss can be hard to come to terms with, and it was quite a challenge to find safe and efficient ways to stop or slow down hair loss even in recent years. However, hair restoration treatments have been improving rapidly in the last decade, with more traditional methods of hair replacement being replaced by state-of-the-art hair loss solutions like NeoGraft®

While older procedures like the “strip” method often come with post-operative pain, a slow recovery time, potential loss of feeling at the incision site, and an unsightly scar, modern methods such as NeoGraft® offer patients more natural-looking results with minimal downtime and no scarring!

Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis is proud to be a certified provider of NeoGraft® technology. This breakthrough procedure helps men achieve a fuller, healthier head of hair and comes with a number of benefits.

  • It’s the least invasive procedure for hair transplantation
  • Patients who receive NeoGraft® generally feel little to no discomfort during the treatment process
  • General anesthesia is not required, lessening the risk of complications
  • There are no stitches or staples used in the NeoGraft® procedure
  • Patients will not experience any scarring
  • There will be no numbness in the donor area
  • Recovery time is fast, with little to no downtime
  • The results are flexible and look incredibly natural
  • Patients are typically able to return to work the next day

Male Hair Restoration With NeoGraft®

How does NeoGraft® work?

Step One

One of our certified NeoGraft® providers will carefully extract individual hair follicles from the back of the head, also referred to as the “donor area.” This area is genetically programmed to resist the hormone that causes hair loss, meaning you’ll barely be able to tell that hair was taken from this area after it’s healed, which can be as soon as one week after the procedure. When extracting the grafts, our NeoGraft® professionals ensure they’re the same consistency in diameter and length, resulting in a dramatically increased percentage of hairs that accept the transfer.

Step Two

Once the desired quantity of follicles has been collected, the follicular units are carefully separated by size – one, two, three, and sometimes four hair units – to allow for a more natural occurring pattern during the implant process.

Step Three

Your hair transplant technician creates recipient sites for the hair on the thinning area in the proper angle, direction, and orientation created in the artistic transplant plan we design specifically for you.

Step Four

These newly transplanted follicles will then enter the normal biological process, “resting” before growing completely new hair in the grafted areas 4-8 months later. Increasing hair growth and maturation will continue for up to a year. The result? A fuller head of hair that’s entirely natural-looking! This new hair can be colored, cut, or styled in any fashion. Since there is no linear scar and the hair transplant procedure is completely undetectable, the only people who will know will be the ones you decide to tell!
