Children are great, but sometimes the rapid weight gain and subsequent weight loss associated with pregnancy can leave undesirable changes to a woman’s body. Breasts enlarge during pregnancy and more so with breast-feeding. After pregnancy and weaning, breasts may decrease in size, loose upper pole fullness, and/or droop. Breast rejuvenation may involve a lift, reduction, augmentation, or a combination of augmentation with lifting.
Changes to the abdominal area may involve a bulge from distraction of the rectus abdominis muscles to make room for the growing uterus, stretching of the overlying skin, and increase in localized fat deposits. Restoring the pre-pregnancy contour can entail a tummy tuck (full or mini) with or without liposuction.
The combination of abdominal and breast surgery is popularly referred to as a mommy makeover. Surgeries may be performed in one setting or staged depending on the woman’s wishes and the amount of operating time. Surgery is performed as an outpatient with recovery taking 1-2 weeks.
