All About Injectable Treatments

As the winter months approach, it’s more important than ever to invest in your skin! Establishing a consistent skincare routine is essential to avoiding the issues that come with cooler weather, such as dry or flakey skin. However, if you’re unhappy with the way your skin looks, you may be searching for something that goes a little deeper than an effective moisturizer. Our team is here to tell you all about injectable treatments and how they can help improve the look and feel of your skin!

What are injectable procedures?

As we age, the changes that occur often include changes in skin texture and elasticity. Injectable procedures are formulas that are designed to give skin a more youthful appearance. These are strategically injected into targeted areas with a very small needle. Each injection only takes a few minutes, with the entire procedure lasting a total of 15 to 60 minutes.

There are a few types of injectable treatments available here at Plastic Surgery Group and the kind you choose will depend on the type of corrections you’re looking for. In general, there are two types of injectables: neurotoxins and dermal fillers. During your initial consultation, your PSG provider will go over your concerns and goals to determine the best option to meet your unique needs.

What are injectable treatments used for?

Injectable treatments with Plastic Surgery Group are effective for treating the most common signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, and deep creases and folds on the face and neck. We also see many people who are seeking treatment for issues such as hollows, recessed scars, and double chins.

Most injectable formulas are FDA-approved to be combined with an anesthetic to reduce any potential discomfort. This makes them a great option for anyone who is looking for a long-term solution without the pain and recovery time associated with cosmetic surgery.

Types of injectable treatments

Once you’ve made the decision to pursue an injectable treatment option, one of our expert physicians will guide you in choosing the best option. We offer the following options here at PSG:

Botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure that consists of a few tiny injections into muscles. The effects are very localized and when administered by a plastic surgeon, do not affect your ability to smile, laugh, or show expression. This is great news for anyone who has been considering injectable treatment but is wary of side effects.

Clostridia botulinum bacteria produce a class of chemical compounds known as toxins. The Botulinum Type A Toxin (BOTOX) is processed and purified to produce a sterile product suitable for specific therapeutic uses. Once the diluted toxin is injected, it produces a temporary paralysis of muscle by preventing the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscle. The duration of muscle paralysis generally lasts approximately three to four months.

If you’re between the ages of 18 and 65 with moderate to severe frown lines, you may be a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic. BOTOX® injections are customized for every patient, depending on their particular needs. These can be performed in areas involving the eyelid region, forehead, and neck. BOTOX® cannot stop the process of aging, however, it can temporarily diminish the look of wrinkles caused by muscle groups.

Juvederm

The Juvéderm® Collection of Fillers includes Voluma, Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra XC, Vollure, and Volbella. Juvéderm® is the only HA filler that’s FDA approved to last up to one year, and Vollure lasts up to 18 months! This is a great option to smooth away wrinkles and folds caused by aging.

While other hyaluronic acid fillers on the market have a more granular consistency, Juvéderm® injectable gel is a smooth-consistency HA (Hyaluronic Acid) gel that can replace the HA your skin has lost. This is due to an innovative manufacturing process called Hylacross™. Your skin can renew its volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds.

Kybella

Kybella is a revolutionary FDA-approved treatment for double chins that requires no surgery or incisions. Until Kybella hit the market, liposuction was the only truly effective way to remove a double chin. Kybella is unique due to its ability to remove the double chin using a series of short, fast injections that aren’t invasive and don’t require any downtime.

The key ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid. This acid is found naturally in the human body and plays a role in the digestive process, by destroying the membranes of fat cells. By harnessing the power of deoxycholic acid, Kybella is able to effectively destroy the fat under the chin. The fat in the double chin is gradually destroyed through a series of targeted injections, creating a tighter appearance in the neck, and achieving a smoother transition between the jaw and the neck. Kybella only works to reduce fat under the chin, making it a good treatment option for patients who are only dealing with a double chin in the area, and whose skin will be elastic enough to accommodate the slimmer shape of the chin after treatment is completed.
