Dr. Laura Cooper joined The Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis
in 2010. She is double-board certified by the American Board of Surgery (2007)
and the American Board of Plastic Surgery (2012) and is a member of the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons (2012). A native of Northwest Tennessee,
Dr. Cooper graduated as valedictorian of her high school class. She completed
her undergraduate studies in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating with honors from
The University of Memphis. She then attended medical school and subsequently
completed her general surgery residency at The University of Tennessee Health
Science Center. Dr. Cooper then pursued an additional three years of fellowship
training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Emory University in
Atlanta, Georgia, a highly respected and world-renowned plastic surgery
program. While at Emory, Dr. Cooper further refined her interests in the latest
advancements in reconstructive, craniofacial, and cosmetic techniques. As a
female plastic surgeon, Dr. Cooper brings a fresh, new perspective, that when
combined with an exceptional level of training, offers a personalized treatment
approach with the latest advancements in plastic surgery care.
Dr. Cooper enjoys all aspects of plastic surgery. She has a special interest in women’s health
and wellness, particularly in the care and treatment of women who face the
challenges of breast cancer reconstruction. One of the most rewarding aspects
of her practice has been working with breast cancer patients, supporting them
through a life-altering experience, and replacing that which has been lost by
creating beautiful, natural-appearing reconstructions.
Dr. Cooper also has a keen interest in complex facial
reconstruction for various types of skin cancer, including basal cell
carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Reconstructing facial defects that result
from cutaneous malignancies requires a high level of skill, as well as an intimate
knowledge and understanding of the anatomy.
Although challenging, Dr. Cooper finds these types of procedures
especially rewarding. Her goal is not only to restore form and function and
prevent permanent disfiguration, but also to go above and beyond expectations to
give her patients excellent reconstructive results.
Aesthetic surgery of the face and body requires surgical finesse,
technical precision, and a personalized focus, all of which are qualities
inherent to Dr. Cooper’s practice.
She believes that a personalized approach utilizing the patient’s own
natural beauty is paramount to helping patients achieve their cosmetic
goals. She strives to establish a
personal relationship with each individual patient built on realistic
expectations and trust. Whether rejuvenating the face and body from years that
have been lost, rediscovering or improving your ideal self-image, or perfecting
your inner beauty, Dr. Cooper’s focus is to help you reach your personal goals
in a caring, professional, and comfortable environment.
In addition to her Memphis location, Dr. Cooper has been seeing patients
at her Union City office since 2013. As a native of Obion County with a strong
interest in community service, she feels it is important to give back to her
hometown by providing patients with access to services which are otherwise not
available without the need for long-distance travel.
When not at work, Dr. Cooper enjoys reading, running, biking,
gardening, traveling, photography, and spending time with her 18-year old pet,
